I am happier when I am busy. Occasionally I forget this and try to take it easy, only to learn once more that I am happier in motion. This is where I write about things that make me grow.
Lately I focus on educational technology and teaching. But I tend to frequently change the object of my fascination. Open your eyes, there is so much to see.

Shawn McCusker has 22 years of experience as a middle school and high school teacher. He has taught in public, private and alternative schools. In 2006, he was recognized as a finalist for the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching. He earned his B.A. in history from Northern Illinois University and an M.A. in Educational Leadership from Concordia University, Chicago. On Twitter, (@ShawnMcCusker) Shawn is was the long time co-leader of#sschat, an online social studies community, and the creator of #1to1techat, which conducts discussions of effective leadership and teaching practices for 1:1 programs. He was a also an organizer of both EdCampChicago and EdCampSocialStudies. He has presented at national and local conferences such as the iPad Summit at Harvard University in Boston, National Council for Social Studies, NICE (Northern Illinois Computer Educators) , CASE (Council on American Studies Education) and the ILCHE/IMSA Conference. He was a Featured Presenter at the iPad Summit Atlanta held at Georgia Tech University, the iPad Summit Boston 2013 and the 2014 Leading Future Learning Conference in San Diego 2014 and 2015. He has keynoted the Iowa1:1 Confernece in 2015 and the Innovation Summit SanDiego in 2016. Shawn is currently the Social Studies Department Supervisor at Libertyville High School in Libertyville, IL where he teaches Government and International Studies.
Shawn loves to work across the country as a digital learning consultant helping others to learn how technology can help them to better express learning creatively, overcome their students obstacles and connect them with the world.
